With the cost of living crisis continuing to bite, there has never been a better time to consider insulation for your property. Of course, this may seem like a contradiction to many. Saving money means avoiding making any substantial updates on your property.
However, it must be stressed that insulation is different from getting your attic renovated or finally putting in that patio. Insulation is an essential part of your home’s overall heating system. Poorly insulated homes lead to a massive amount of heat loss. Although the initial investment seems like a lot, insulation will save you a tremendous amount of money in energy bills. You will have completely recouped your investment in a few short years. So, an insulation installation will save you money in a cost-of-living crisis.
Still, paying for that installation may seem daunting. Luckily, there is financial help available in the form of the SEAI grant. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland can award up to €8,000 back after you insulate your home. Of course, you’ll likely have questions. That’s why we have compiled some of the most common inquiries we get on the SEAI grant and compiled them below.

Who is entitled to SEAI Insulation grants?
- Homeowners and private landlords are eligible.
- Based on the date your electricity meter was installed, your property must have been built and occupied before 2011.
- Important note:
- Each property can only receive grant funding once per type of work.
- If you have already received wall insulation support through any government scheme (including the Better Energy Homes scheme), you are not eligible for additional funding for further wall insulation work.
What SEAI Insulation grants are available?
Attic Insulation
Upgrading your attic insulation can be one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency. The grant amounts vary depending on the type of dwelling, ranging from €800 for apartments to €1,500 for detached houses. So, whether you live in an apartment, mid-terrace, semi-detached, or detached house, there’s a grant available to help you save money on your energy bills while making your home more comfortable year-round.
Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity Wall Insulation involves injecting insulation material into the cavity between your home’s inner and outer walls, typically done from the outside. Grant amounts vary depending on the property type, ranging from €700 for apartments to €1,700 for detached houses. This makes cavity wall insulation a potentially cost-effective upgrade for various dwellings.
Internal Insulation
Internal insulation (dry lining) involves fixing insulation boards directly to the inner surface of your external walls. While it’s generally the most expensive option, grant amounts can help offset the cost. These range from €1,500 for apartments to €4,500 for detached houses, making it a potentially worthwhile investment for improved energy efficiency and comfort in your living space.
External Wall Insulation (The Wrap)
This method involves fixing insulating materials directly to the outside of your external walls. While it’s the most expensive option, with grants ranging from €3,000 for apartments to €8,000 for detached houses
